The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized about 320 kg of dry ganja (worth ~₹2 crore) from a truck intercepted at Karanodai toll plaza in Tiruvallur. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) intervened before market opening by selling U.S. dollars through state banks to buttress the rupee, continuing a recent strategy of curbing speculative downside pressure. Before Friday’s session, the rupee had threatened to slip beyond 88 to the dollar; the intervention supported an opening at 87.75, up from 87.82 the prior day. Over two sessions, the rupee regained more than 1%. Analysts view these dollar sales as a signal that the RBI may now be aiming for a stronger rupee rather than defending a lower bound.
